    Another thrift store special. It looks like a framed silk embroidery with Chinese characters. It's in a 18" x 12" metal frame with glass cover. It looks like silk, but I'm no expert in this. Any ideas? I can provide more photos.

      If it is hand embroidered it is sure to be natural silk. Machine embroidery can be on a polyester silk.

      One of the Asian experts may be along in a bit to comment. It is a lovely cloth!

      I will post a close up photo of the back, and of the fraying edges, tomorrow. I hope this will help.

      it reads "song guan(type of crane) yan(prolong) nian(years)" an auspicious idiom to wish you long life
