Sideways & upside down story of my life (haha) ,,, I've had this bottle or whatever it is for 45 years or so can someone tell me what it is ??? It's very thin and blown glass I think. There are bubbles in it, and the pocket blown in the side of it is really cool.. I have always thought it was a wine bottle but I don't honestly have a clue what it is or where its from. it has no markings at all. I got it from a young marine in Jacksonville NC in about 1970. I hope someone has some information about this bottle,, Thanks for looking and have a blessed day...

I'm always in Italian restaurants and a very common starter is a saucer of oil with a splash of balsamic oil and then you dip your bread in it
Sooooo delicious they often have such a bottle just smaller
I believe this is what you have because of its age they would have made it large because it's easier and most likely for a larger family as almost anywhere in the world larger families were more common

Sorry that's a splash of balsamic vinegar

I have one just like it. I always thought wine with a place for ice.

Just spoke to my friends Italian mother age 70ish
Her grandma had one like it and yes it's for oil and vinegar
      Nice piece

I personally do NOT believe it is for Oil and Vinegar -- but rather the inside is where you put ICE to keep the Wine cold without watering down the wine itself.

I have a bottle posted on CW here that has also that special inside area ( under the lion head ) to put the ice cubes in.

Thank everyone for your comments as to what this bottle/decanter is,, This piece is so thin I would be afraid to put ice cubes in the pocket blown into the side. However it makes sense that it would be a wine decanter with a place for ice. I also see how it could be for oil or something of that nature, Does anyone have one like it ?? If so please let me know I am curious to see another one or something similar. Thank everyone and God bless all of you

Mine has a small circular orange/red paper (generic) label with a white border around it stating made in Italy in white letters. It's kinda obvious, but happy to confirm it's Italian.

This is a "Princess House" Italian wine decanter from the early 1970's. I've had mine since about 1973. Yes, ice goes in the side to keep wine cool while not adding water to the wine when the ice melts. Using crushed ice would be best as the glass is quite fragile. Have a blessed day!
