Antique Cast Iron Whale Oil Lamp
There is a foundry hallmark found on the item I believe the mark is a pix and axe. I was told that this was from the Hungarian Deutsche miners garments. As I was searching the internet I found these lamps to be whale oil lamps used neither on ships or in the mines.
Height 4 ¾ inches, Width 4 ½ inches, Hook Length 4 ¼ inches
i've seen these w/ a pick coming out the back side to stick in the wall. i'm curious as to how this one would be suspended without burning the house down. ??
I was told that this one was used to hang on the clothing of the miners
that's quite a hook to stick in clothing!
Looks like a torture device!
