I found this at a thrift store. I thought the workmanship was amazing and it is so old. The nails on the frame are all hand forged. I have no idea what this is. Does anybody have an idea?

HAGIA SOFIA ... but a French version .... perhaps for the French tourist market?

Thanks Vetraio50. I read the info. So hard to show with pictures how the whole thing is stitched by hand including the trim. It looks very old to me. I am wondering if it could be a small prayer mat? I am not sure.
