Was told this clock was used on trains. Is very heavy and works good. Anyone know anything about it.

What stablized it--or do you think it probably was just the weight alone? It is wonderful!!
PostCardCollector I would assume it was the weight. Im guessing it weighs 8-9 lbs. The bottom part at the feet are solid brass. Is a beautiful clock.
Nice looking clock. Are there any stamps or markings on the movement? It looks like it may be a pendulum regulated mantel clock. If so, I doubt that it would have been used on anything mobile like a train. Pendulum clocks need a solid, level surface in order to keep the pendulum swinging properly. Clocks intended for travel (like Carriage Clocks) usually used some type of balance wheel, or platform movement. Timekeeping on trains was done with very accurate pocket watches. There are collectors of Railroad Watches. Again, nice looking clock. Looks like it has been well cared for. Thanks for sharing it and let us know if you can find any markings or additional information on it.
It is pendulum regulated. Is a very short pendulum, I will look for markings and update.
