    another ebay find.

to me, it appears that he has a fishing basket, but the other gear makes me wonder if it's truly all for fishing or something else, especially with all those books.

**Edit: I'm agreeing with the Naturalist occupational type here, but feel free to add anything if you know more!

Ah, so cool!! I'm studying for a degree in biology, so that couldn't be more perfect for my collection

He may be on a sketching trip - I think I see pencils sticking up from his bag. I have no idea what kind of basket that is though.

His boots would exclude him from wading out into a river to fish for trout.

I've seen specifically fishing cdvs have baskets pretty much identical to that basket, so that's why I assumed he was a fisherman. That does make sense that he'd be geared up to sketch plenty of species, but I don't see any pencils sticking out. They appear to be two hardcover books stacked on top of each other on the bag. He is however, holding what appears to be a softcover book; maybe a sketch book?

Yup - you're correct about the lack of pencils! I see the books now sitting on top of one another.
