I know this Victorian thorn vase has suffered an injury & is missing it's hanging basket, but I still think it's rather wonderful. It is made from three layers of cased glass - clear over blue, with a white interior. The vase is covered with rustic thorn pull outs & has an applied shell ribbed branch, which is now somewhat sadly truncated. It would have once held a hanging basket, & measures 24.5 cm tall, 4 cm across the fire polished top rim, & 7.5 cm across the base, which has a snapped pontil mark. A flea market find, & I believe it to be of English manufacture.

I too would display something damaged if it was as stunning as this. I love the mind that conceived a thorn vase in such a vivid jewel colour.....

Many thanks, sklo42, I'm so glad you're enjoying it! It is a favourite of mine...& we are led to believe that the Victorians were a staid bunch, but I find it hard to believe looking at this vase, it is fanciful, whimsical, quirky. I think it may be by John Walsh Walsh...it looks like one of their palm tree vases sans the crown of applied leaves. They also used quite intense colours for those - like hot pink. The Walsh palm tree vase is at the top of my glass bucket list, too!
