This trunk sat in my family's drug store in Monmouth, IL for the last 75 years or more. We know nothing about it, or trunks in general. The label on the side says "John Handley & Sons" and "Glasgow". There are blue stars on the inside and leather straps on the outside. Seems to be made of canvas..? There is also a sticker on the side that says "Union Passenger Station Chicago.", "U.PS. 14". My family's "story" that has been passed down is that it could have belonged to a magician named The Great Nicola!! Some writing on the lock hinge, but all we can make out is "333".

Hey I guess you never know, seems like he used a lot of trunks in his show. Some of these types of trunks were oil cloth and leather over wicker or wood. Popular in the late 1800s. This is a nice old label for sure that I am seeing for the first time. I'll look around a bit for the history of the company. Thanks for the post.

Thanks Drill! I couldn't find much on the Handley & Sons company. So I'm definitely interested in any info you may get find!

Hi my surname is Handley and I'm from Glasgow . Handleys I've came across in this area are normally connected but I've never heard of anyone being in the luggage buisiness ??? Is there any indication of how old trunk is ???
