This wooden contraption was found in an old farmstead barn in upstate NY.
I believe that the barn it was found in was once owned by Amish people or at least Amish people live(d) in the area, so the thought is that they may have hand carved it.
Although we (family/friends) believe that this is a wooden wheel or pulley of some sort, no one has seemed to be able to discover exactly what it is and what it was used for since 2012, when the contraption was shown to me. It was found in the barn when my friend, the owner, was cleaning it out. I took these pictures of it and have shared with a museum, but no luck, so I thought I'd try here.
I don't have the measurements, but you can judge the size by the hand in the pictures.
You'll be my friend's hero if you can figure this one out :)
Yes, the second picture is probably the most detailed picture I have at hand, and I do think there were some pieces missing. He had them in a bushel basket and put the single pieces together like a puzzle. I will dig around for any other pictures I may have taken from different angles.
