I noticed an old house being cleaned out a while back and of course I had to check out the pile of trash. Found this sad letter from a sad GI. I have to say I love the stationery. Makes me wonder how their lives turned out.

The hotel logo's near the top is the best part.

You mean "all the disappointments of home"? This letter just keeps on giving!

Oh dear, poor Freddie. :( I wonder why Joyce didn't wait for him? It's interesting the he wrote the letter a day before the war ended.

Great post, cindyjune. I'd also love to know how their lives turned out.

Anik I hadn't noticed the date. Interesting. I would love to know the end of the story too. I guess this type of thing happened a lot.
      Thanks for the comment!

I'm glad you were able to make sense of what I wrote... "the" was supposed to be "that". Sigh.

I'm just wondering what type of man did she marry? Why wasn't he deployed somewhere? Maybe he came back as an injured soldier? Or maybe there was a base in Massachusetts? And poor 'ol Freddie... maybe because he didn't respond to her earlier letter, Joyce thought he didn't love her and, with a broken heart, she found comfort in the arms of another...

I guess we'll never know. (But I think Freddie had do hold some place in Joyce's heart since the letter was kept for all these years... shame that someone decided to throw it away.)

Oops, I did it again... "do" should have been "to". I really should refrain from commenting on posts when my body and brain are not in the most cooperative of states. :(

Joyce lived on Cedar street in Foxboro, I know that much because I lived acouple of streets away. I once ask my Mom if she knew her and she said yes. Mom has been gone now 7 months and this is just one more thing I wish I had asked. I am going to try and research it a bit.
