It sounds like they might be orig by your description but what you will need to do is take it outside and in the shade look at it through a jewelers loupe or a magnifying glass to see if there are any dots. Dots would mean it is a print.

It's possible the number represents how many were put out in the public which could also indicate these may be lithographs, not necessarily but regardless, if it is an indicator of how many were released, the number is very low and that is a good thing. Oh wait a minute...is it possible these were both done in 1932 since you have some knowledge that the artist is a female. I do not recognize the name as being one or the other but it may be common to you. That is most likely what that would be after looking at them again would be the year, 1932. I seriously doubt a regular pencil was used and yes, again, most likely charcoal. If you can not tell whether it is an original, you could always take it to a frame shop too and many times the folks there have way more knowledge than we ever thought and are happy to help with info. You have a lot of research to do to because sometimes the frame itself is worth more than the "picture". I don't mean to drag this on but it's also important to know that if you decide to take this out of the frame yourself, you have to be careful not to touch it with bare hands. That could start a chain reaction in ruining the drawing by the oils of you hands. and on and on... ;) I will see what I can find on this person from here and let you know. I do hope to be back to report good news to you!

Ok, I get absolutely nothing so...are you positive that is the name of the artist? Look at the signature again for a sec. You see the artist name and below I see Sicily. Look at the two "S's". The one on the last name to me looks like it would be an "L" not an S. What do you think???

Your sketches by Marbury Somervell are not charcoal or pencil but chinese ink.
They are originals. The number following the signature shows the year those sketches were made ; 32 for 1932.
Marbury Somervell was in France then, criss-crossing in Europe.
Anything else you want to know about this artist ?
      Yours,
      Tsitsa.
