      With the photo you posted and nothing in the description to tell us anything about it, there isn't anything anyone could tell you about it. My guess would be that it might be a floor lamp. Here's what you need to do. Take at least 4 good photos of all sides of this, bottom pic too, crop your photos and upload them here. Then in the description, describe everything you see. is it cast iron? how tall is it? is it a lamp? a tool? is there any writing on it? What does it say? You see what I'm saying. Take a look at a few posts from someone that has been here a while. Under your name it says you have posted 3 items. So look for someone that has posted hundreds of items and read it. Then you can see all the comments. You'll get it and I promise, if you stick around there is a whole lot of everything to learn here! You got this!

      The ball was clear originally. It has manganese in the glass, which turns pink and, later, purple due to UVC from the sun. It takes a few decades at least to get that shade.
      1890s-1900s, I should think.
