Hi, picked this up thought to myself 'wow!' very old and very unique! It has a embossed pattern on top and the front. I'm trying to get any information on this to help find a better home for it. Not sure if someone painted it back in the day or if they came like this?

I would say around late 1880's give or take a bit, barrel top trunk, cross slat design, trunk has been painted white along with the wood slats, the embossed alligator tin could have been gold in color, very popular in the day, but could have been red or a different color, the smooth tin was black and the other hardware was silver in color, the hardware was dipped in hot tin, the wood slats would have been natural wood with a finish, inside was very nice at one time has been stripped of its paper or linen, hard to say who the maker was without a label, common trunk for the day made by everyone who made trunks, greendog.
