California Vintage Outdoor (Plein Air) Artist 20th Century Signed Painting

Of course this painting has a story, for me, it is the perfect contribution for a Show & Tell CW post.

When I was buying a lot of vintage and antique goods from estate auctions in the USA, I had my favorites, a few of them in the Mid-West. This gallery which I had done business with for several years, was closing. They had a large group of vintage paintings in their stock, and I offered to buy them for a lump sum, plus the shipping which was not bad during this period.

You can guess the rest, there were a few very nice paintings, a few amateur paintings, and some odd ones. I had heard of the California artist group who did their craft outdoors, with oil paint on hard board and an easel. This painting is signed but very hard to see.

It was quite dirty with smoke and grime, the colors really came to life once I gently wiped it with a damp sponge, especially the blue water, which seems to be a view of the ocean on a misty and cloudy day painted with an impasto approach, in the impressionist style of ' California 'Plein Air' tradition. It has a solid oak beveled original frame, and no other indication or information written on it. Measures 20 inches by 14 inches overall.
