The gentleman who this belongs to was gifted it by his (now deceased) brother. He has little to no knowledge about it and has asked me to try help. I too am at a loss other that google searches. Hopefully some one will know or point me in the correct direction to help solve this mystery for him.

The sword itself seems blunt and is steel. The handle and sheath are what seems solid brass. It is quite heavy.
    Thank you for your time.

      The writing looks like Greek

The brass handle would not be practical for combat, so that leaves, dress, ceremonial or fraternal. Italian ?
    4. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 5 years ago
Maker's marks etc are usually on the blade on front of the hilt.

Roy, I have a long history of waking up with dawgs. How did you come up with something as remote as Uruguay police sword ?

Check out 1881 Russian shashka. This probably from WWI.
    10. Roycroftbooksfromme1, 5 years ago

I usually point people in the right direction. Up to them to do the research. I sense that many were sold to S. Amer., so Uruguay sounds reasonable. I stumbled on this while researching something else. Is it warm enough for my visit yet ?

lol your a good lad ....acutely it sucks out today rain and the snow banks are still a foot or so tall ,.. but it should be gone by the end of the week .. you should wait till the black fly's come so we have fresh bait.. smiling .. nice find ..later ..have to paint some old frames for my picture showing this spring ...oh my ..

Mosquitoes luv me so much that people invite me to parties to keep them away from other guests. Where is the poster ? Post & run ?
