    (137 items)

In my last post it was pointed out by AnythingObscure that many tools such as knives were often refashioned from other worn out or broken items. I said I would post some such items which I have and here they are. Pic 1 shows an item made from an old file with the lines of the file still visible. Could have been a cleaver but tin smiths used a similar item, hit with a mallet, to cut sheets of tin or copper. 15 inches long.
Pic 2 shows a small pruning hook, 9 inches long, also made from an old file. Pic 3 is a trimming knife once used by a local thatcher and made from an old scythe blade. It is 11 inches long. Lastly pic 4 shows a home made knife, 7 1/4 inches long. Not sure what this one is made from. It has a roughly carved handle with a tang going through and riveted on the end.

Fun tools. #2 looks like a root cutter.

You could be right fhrjr2,many user made tools had no one purpose and were used for whatever job it suited.
