I’m very new to this, so please forgive my simple questions. I have been told that is are Empire chairs..... and I think they probably are.
But isn’t Empire 1800-1850s? I have seen postings claiming 1910 era.
    How do I date these?

Looks to be 20th century. A photo of the bottom (underside) of the chair may confirm.

There was a period of Empire Revival at the beginning of the 20th century and of course earlier styles can always be incorporated into pieces of furniture.

Ahh, that makes sense. I’m embarrassed to say I forgot to look at the bottoms of the chairs. There is a paper tag for the Phoenix Chair Co. Sheboygan, Wis. and the handwritten number 197.
