I found this large Japanese wooden box yesterday. I'm wondering what it was used for. The only identifying feature is this little sticker seen in the last photo. The box is 13 in x 13 in x 11.5 in. Any idea?

A friend just gave me this info about the sticker: Kin-Fuji Lacquerware Shop. 2-chome Nihonbashi-ku, Tokyo City (this sticker would be before 1943).

Perhaps it was packaging for some really excellent lacquer ware. Cool box.

i think you guessed correctly racer! a friend translated the sticker in the box and it says something like that.
