Hi, I’m trying to figure out the approximate age/type of this rocker. I’m guessing it’s made from white oak but I should be able to see the grain better once I start sanding it for refinishing. The seat is held in place with what appears to be pegs but I done see any manufacturer markings. I bought it from someone who said it had been in their family for generations but that’s easy enough to say. They also mentioned it had been re-caned 8 years ago.
Yes it is pegged. That is a sign of old world craftsmanship, although some of us still peg our creations together. Looking at the under side of the seat it appears to be fairly close grained and could very well be white oak. Age could be an issue but looking at the turnings I would say post 1919.
