old box of chessmen

The lid of this box is only labeled "CHESSMEN" as handwritten on masking tape, without any stamping in the wood similar to the box of checkers just shown -- other than that, and the contents of course, the box is basically the same. The chessmen are also similar in their colors, but I'm not certain if they're actually made (carved?) of wood, or maybe molded of some kind of resin material instead.
