I bought this when I lived in Japan in 1990. Maker unknown to me. I'm guessing it's of the era of Japanese influence on the Art Nouveau movement. I call it "Nouveau-esque" for lack of a better term in English. The first kanji looks to be "yama" or mountain. Possibly Awaji? (Size is 10" x 4" x 5")
