I have scoured the internet in search of the origin of this little 3 inch Kewpie doll. It appears to be bisque. Has a cold chalk-like texture. But the only making it has is on its lower back near the bottom. It appears to say “LOTA” and then under it is an “83” The eyes are not like the Kewpie dolls or their mass produced copies I’m finding on online sales sites. I would love any advise as to the origin of this little Thinker doll that you could give me. The paint is still pretty bright and clean to be from 1883. So maybe it’s 1983. Or maybe not. Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.
It is a reproduction of a Kewpie type doll made in a ceramic class in 1983 and painted by Lota .
El original tiene los ojos pintados en negro, esta en el museo digital de Thuringen. http://www.museum.digital.de Este puede ser una copia made in Japan años 50s

Thank you both for your insights. I know there was a lot of kewpie reproductions from Japan as I’ve seen on eBay. Although the idea of a ceramics class project is a good guess too. Thanks again!
