My father, Richard Gibbons, purchased this early commercially manufactured Diamond Back mountain bike in 1984 for $365.50 at what is considered one of the earliest manufactures of custom mountain bikes, the Sore Saddle Cyclery shop, located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Apparently, the DB mountain bike line was so new that they had not yet put together an owner’s manual. Instead, they provided my dad with a book meant for a 10 or 12 speed bicycle and then inserted a spec sheet for the new cantilever brakes that were used on the mountain bikes.

Gorgeous bike, I love the cycle shops which have a lot of creativity. It reminds me of my 76 10 speed !~

My dad tried to give me one of the first mountain bikes..was a few years before this. I did not like it, thought it was ugly. Made him take it back and buy me a 12 speed.
