I’ve just rediscovered this lovely vase , I saw it the other day but didn’t think anything about it but was looking at something online which led me to a site what had loads of these, but I didn’t see this same one, so went back to the box and found it. I didn’t think it was collectible so wasn’t even going on to post it.

you better ask vetreaio because he is the expert
it is a majollica RAFFAELLESCO see RAFFAELL in the vatican , the meaning of the dragon ( mytical)shifted from the medieval renaissance to the revival of the neo classical period
in ancient times sailors believed the depiction to be an PORTAFORTUNA a good luck charm because the breath of the dragon represents favorable locomotion ( wind ) lol the probably did,not read NEWTON than
real antigue DERUTA is expensive and very rare , you can judge it by sedimentatiion the so called FLUVIO- LACUSTRINE sedimentation in medieval times , because of the cleanliness of TIBER water gives a different afterglaring and the paleness of the standring is far more prominant
this is tourist ware it is an abbreviation of dipinto a mano and the signing of the artist is missing
imo it is quite new , it is not even mid century , probably 1970 and up , cute conversation piece well done
Thanks apostata, I found it a long time ago, then saw some online I remember I had seen this when searching a box I’d not opened in years. I didn’t even take it out then.
