This clock is heavy, it is made of black cast iron, which for some reason was all the rage when it was made. I came in three varieties Black (this one) Brass and Bronze finishes. The case has a fox, owls, and swallows etched into the metal. It is a well built clock and keeps accurate time.

rlwindle, Dunno why cast-iron clocks were all the rage back in 1884, but people in that era were already accustomed to ornamental iron, possibly because of treadle sewing machines, and the creation of the Eiffel Tower was right around the corner (it was not universally beloved back then).

I myself think the clock is beautiful. <3
