The arsinoitherium was a rather robust rhinocerous sized mammal from around 30 million years ago. It is a confusing animal due to some contradictory points. The horns are bone based like bulls or bison. They were built like a rhino but with a different The feet are like those of an elephant. In the end it was decided it was a type of elephant.
Both males and females had horns. I have theory by me that the the horns on the prehistoric mammals was to fend off the other large prehistoric mammals and not predators. The predators were not all that large and large herbivores tend to be quite aggressive. Anyway that is my theory by me.
