Original Victorian Cabinet Card of a Cairn Terrier dated April 21, 1886. There is detailed provenance written on the back: the dog’s name, "Smuttie", the precise date, and a faint stamp for the photography studio, likely belonging to E. W. Donnelly.
"Smuttie" seems like a terrible name, but it actually means "dirty" or "soiled." Cairn Terriers are known for hunting rodents and getting dirty in the process, so the name was appropriate for the time period.

What a cutie :)
Beautiful Cairn terrier & unique name
