Hello I’ve just rediscovered this lovely big vase , feels like wood but guessing it’s paper mache , I’ve no idea how old it is, or where it’s from. Only one I’ve ever come across.

This is possibly a handmade Burmese lacquered wooden vase. With this engraving technique, a design is engraved into the lacquer and then filled with pigments.

Thanks mp sounds interesting, and it’s definitely engraved, and makes sense now that it’s wood dipped in lacquer.
Apostata it’s engraved like some of those Italian and Spanish items.

i don,t know what it is , well i don,t see this applicationt as cut or an engraving ,that,s all ,but my meaning is insignificant because i am a rookie in this

what i do know is that verij high concentrations of THITSEE ( =the black lacqeur)causes DERMATITIS
