This is a small (5 and ½ inches or 13 cm) bronze okimono of a geisha or geiko holding a cat. The casting is very detailed and you need a magnifying glass to be able to appreciate all the beauty of the piece. Parts of the design of her kimono are gilded or gold-inlaid. I guess it is a Japanese piece or Chinese made for the Japanese market, and it is probably from the Meiji era. Suggestions or corrections to my opinion are welcome. Thanks for your visit!
Very detailed indeed, I can even see details in the cat which normally would be omitted. A little while back I ordered some Chinese small statue stands which I liked. Congratulations on this piece, I love it !~
Thank you Phil. I wish I knew more about the foundry's techniques that allowed such miniscule details to be transfered to the bronze piece. It is amazing that you can have the hair texture, the little cat's face and fur and the kimono's complex decorations reproduces in the final piece.
Yes, when you look at the blow ups of the hair you do notice that it is more detailed than it normally would be along with the face making it so much more attractive !~
