Just brought home this nice looking Foo dog. I didn't see anything like it before. I am used to the regular blue ones, sometimes they appear in green and yellow too, but I never found a blanc de chine one with lots of hand modeled and applied parts, like the hair strands, curls and the ribbon in its mouth. It has some broken parts and some cracks, but I think it is pretty anyway. It is heavy for its size and it is 7 ½ inches high (19,5 cm). No idea of the age, or if it is a reproduction or an antique piece. Suggestions are welcome

Also, I would like to ask you guys to make a formal complaint at Barneby's website to protest against the state of abandonment of our beloved community. Reach them at barbebys.com or on Instagram at http://www.instagram.com/barnebys PLEASE LEAVE THEM A MESSAGE ASKING THEM TO CARE FOR COLLECTORS WEEKLY. They bought it and abandoned it. Now we are plagued by Chinese companies posting ads and there's no maintenance or mediation anymore. We will lose it if we don't fight for it. Please help!
Hi mcheconi
I will report all this to Barnebys (the owners of CW) tomorrow, they are in Sweden and can only be reached between 7 & 9 am EST or the emails are rejected. In the interim I have emailed each of those sales companies to stop polluting our site when we have zero interest in their products, I hope it helps :)
Thank you Newfld. I will do the same about the Chinese companies, although I believe they won't stop. We really need Barneby's to get involved. And we need more help from other CW members! C'mon guys! We need your help!
Hi again,
Don't expect other members to contact Barnebys they never do, I'm the only one (except you now, thank you!) who gets involved. On each and every one of these Chinese infiltrators, they have a profile box with a .com website, you can either leave a message or they give a direct email, and I've contacted them ALL. My message: Hello, please stop polluting the Collectors Weekly Show and Tell website with your sales ads, we are a small community of antique collectors who only show our own personal items & have zero interest in your products, thank you. It seems to be working, if we involve the CW techs I think they are only there to work out technical issues, so we may get shut down again. Let's keep contacting the sales co's directly, seems they have now stopped
OK mcheconi, here they go again
I will send an email to Barnebys @ 7 am, but I fear we may have to live with this spam. Barnebys main co has been bankrupt since August & the only reason we are still online is CW is an ebay affiliate, so I think their tech support dept is very small & don't know if they will care enough to remove the spam, we can only try
FYI
I have just found the email for e-commerce regulation in China, here it is:
icam@samr.gov.cn
I emailed them that our site is under attack by these sales co's, hopefully they can intervene. Obviously we are on a list (could be temu, alibaba etc), and don't know if anything will help. Since our site is just recovering from problems, hope this doesn't alienate even more members - I'll be needing a ticket to Rio for Carnaval in February to lift my spirits :)))
I love the curls, quite unusual, a nice thing to see. I am more used to seeing the regular soapstone variety !~
Newfld, I wasn't aware of Barneby's financial problems...I guess this is bad news for CW. I am sending an e-mail to the Chinese e-commerce regulator too. Thank you very much for your help. And I still hope that others will join us. Have a nice week.
Hey Phil, thanks for the comment. I own two other pairs of Foo dogs, one carved on wood, small and not very well made. The other pair is the usual blue molded ones. These are nicer, the mold is detailed and the blue glaze is evenly applied. Now this one, I can only guess it is much older than the other two. I found some similar examples on the internet that date them as Qing dinasty. They were used as incense holders and this is why it has a small vase like structure attached to the base.
That immense hair display must have a lot to do with the weight. It sure would be unusual for you to find its mate out there, that would be a real needle for that to happen. I am amazed you found this in this fine condition. I would have expected a lot more damage, possible the other one would have disappeared a long time ago.
I guess we lost Collectors Weekly to the Chinese companies, unfortunately. I sent an email to that address Newfld, but my hope is small. CW is plagued by bugs and now this. Is there any other place we could gather?
Hi mcheconi
All last week I emailed that SAMR China e-commerce regulator with daily lists of the different companies, we'll see if they do anything come Sunday night (which is Monday day in China, their office hrs are weekdays 9-6). We get a break for the weekend. If it keeps up we have to live with the nightly site invasion and post during their off-work hours. They think we are a sales platform & the co's are probably just unimportant spam. Only other sites I know of are social media antiquers (doesn't include me)
