Korean War era field phone, complete with leather case. U.S. Army Signal Corps. In very good condition. No corrosion in the battery compartment, crank still turns, and all wiring in great condition. Couldn't pass it up.
Further research shows that these EE-8 phones were used from pre-WWII through Vietnam with the ones in the leather cases being the older ones. They soon realized that leather didn't make a good case being out in the weather, so they eventually replaced the leather with canvas and then later, nylon. I took the phone out of the case but don't see anything showing any year on it. The phone does still work. While I had it out of the case (held into the case with 7 small bolts), I put batteries in it, held my finger on the connections and turned the crank. Yep, it shocked me, But hey, at least I know it still works! :)
Now if I only knew for sure how old it is.
And I just found this phone in a manual from 1945. I'm going with WWII now.
