Both the Bell Telephone System and the Independent Telephone Companies issued Employee badges to be worn on the outside of there work clothes. The Bell system in most cases used the Bell Logo for there ID Badges, the independent's had a little more lead way with design. One of the more unusual was The Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph Co with using the likeness of the Strowger dial. The manufacturing arm of General Telephone & Electronic was Automatic Electric Co and they used a dial on there employee Badge.

What do the numbers mean at the top? The employee number or ?
Thanks pwsest1944
Jeff, the number is the assigned employee number.
Ttomtucker, Thanks for posting. I have only seen one of those oval AE pins (badge). I only learned of AE circa 2002. I guy I worked with had been an employee of General Telephone, and he told me they had AE equipment everywhere. It was a year later before I understood Strowger was affiliated with the very early AE. It seems intuitive now, but I did not know then.
Sorry, a guy I worked with...
