Not sure how old this is. Had a train go by my great-grandparents house daily in southern Indiana. The tracks were taken up long ago, but found this "hammered" sign in the shed. Very rusty, but thought it was unique. I have found some railroad signs that were painted with this design, but none were stamped or hammered out like this one is.

Cool find! The sign was probably made by the railroad to cut costs. May have been painted white with black letters at one time. Early 1900's for sure.

I have had one of these(in eastern Indiana)and I think they were drilled (with a milling bit) not hammered,I think you will find the pilot tip ,of the bit is the deepest part of the marking. Thanks for posting!
