Recent auction acquisition of a Salesman's Demonstrator (Sample). This gate is included in the category of "Automatic Gates" since it could be operated remotely from a vehicle passing through from either side.
It folds up for ease in transport. The gate probably was enclosed in its own carrying case that is not with the model.

Unfortunately a very important piece of the operating mechanism is missing. The Center photo shows the missing part with a nail in its place. The model is 18.5 inches long, 9 inches high, and the arms extend to 33 inches. The original finish is still intact.

Sept 2013. RESTORED! A machinist friend fabricated the missing parts. The gate now operates exactly as described in the patent.

AUTOMATIC GATE: Patented by Isaac R. Burkholder, of Dayton, Ohio, January 30, 1906, patent #811,371. One half of this patent was assigned to Charles N. Heist, of Cissnapark, Illinois.

First place blue ribbon winner in the 2016 State Fair of Texas Creative Arts Dept. Hobby Collections division. Catergory: Mechanical Items

Toolate2. Forgot to mention that a machinist friend is making the missing part for this gate. Will update photo when he sends me the part.
