The sculptural appearance of David Yurman’s fine jewelry betrays the designer’s fine-art roots. After apprenticing in the 1960s with sculptor Jacques Lipchitz, Yurman and his future wife, Sybil Kleinrock, opened Putnam Art Works, which made arty belt buckles and pieces of jewelry. But it was after a short stint with Cartier that Yurman hit his stride with his trademark cable bracelets. Today, Yurman earrings, necklaces, and rings often integrate this classic cable pattern in their designs.
