Vintage movie posters are highly collectible, especially those before the 1940s, of which few survived because theater owners had to send them along to the next theater. A smaller poster variant, the lobby card or window card, is more available, because theaters were allowed to add their names and keep them. Starting in the 1940s, theaters were able to buy more copies of the larger sizes and keep them - these later posters are generally marked with the year and edition.
