The more i look at this piece, the more i feel it was made by a very accomplished potter. I'm hoping someone can read the signature. Part of the signature appears to be some type of symbol or monogram. any help appreciated!!

thank you Phildavidalexandermorris. yes, it is very finely finished on the inside and water can be kept in it. you are so right about many, many talented potters. i still hope that someone recognizes it at some point. are there any other good sights to post pics and attempt id's for pottery/ceramics?

      Is the signature Canog_? Canoga?

Came across this site, thought you might find it useful.

Lovely Ho2cultcha. Looks like salt glaze to me.
I sympathise with you trying to find out who made it. I have a few pots I've not been able to attribute, very frustrating!!
      Good Luck &
      Happy new year :)

thank you Vintagefran. i have quite a few things which i can attribute, but getting those who can legitimately do this to sign on is not so easy.

I guess a better description of this would be 'deeply incised' sgraffito lidded jar - fish theme.
