Jane sent me these photos of an amazing, still-working post office in Gilbertsville NY which has the same circa 1880s nickel plated post office boxes as a bank of boxes I bought a couple of years ago up in Tahoe (I had emailed Jane a photo for her to ID them and she sent me these).
These four pictures speak for themselves. How much would you love to go pick up your mail here? This is what I call "antiques in the wild" - still working, nobody's destroyed, stolen or "upgraded" them yet. btw, the woman in the photo is Carol Collier, the postmaster there.

Actually, I was only the relief postmaster. We love our postoffice... and I still have some spare parts I use for keeping all the box doors working. Jane has been a great help finding us matching doors.
I am the Postmaster in this office, although I am retiring the end of this week. I have been in this wonderful Post Office for 31 years, first as a part-time clerk and now as Postmaster. It is a joy and a privilege to work in such a beautiful and historic setting. I will miss it, but I will still be in every day to get my mail.
What a cool little Postoffice...I would love to work where time has stood still.
Hopefully the new Postmaster will be as in tune with keeping it just the way it is.
Congratulations on 31 wonderful years...enjoy your retirement. USPS/Fort Myers Florida
I had the pleasure of working with Carol Collier and finding spare doors and parts for the Gilbertsville, NY Post Office. When Carol sent me the pictures of their Post Office I felt as if I was in a time warp. It is very obvious that Janet Jacobs, Carol Collier and others who have worked at this wonderfully preserved Post Office have genuinely cared about keeping this historic building and grounds looking wonderful. Hopefully the new Postmaster will feel the same. I would love to visit the town sometime.
