      Have same thing but with not so ornate handle my mom brought over from Germany - it is nickel-plated brass, probably 1940's-1950's

      I would say this is more like 1900s/30s maybe older , because of the handle to bowl join , most of the ones ive seen work with a spring hindged from the top, you dont see too many around here opening from the side .. definatly plated , one of my customers still uses hers ;-)
