I am very pleased to be able to share my newest Loetz - a pair of Schaumglas vases with Candia Silberiris feet and basket-like frames. I have only seen this combination of decors used once before, so I think it is quite an unusual pair. I own other Loetz Schaumglas (foam glass) pieces, but they have a glossy finish; in this case, the Schaumglas is silky smooth with a satin iridescence. Eduard Prochaska, the director for Loetz, often used the basket or cage-like frames of glass seen in this pair in his designs. From what I have read, he was also behind the Schaumglas decor, so this brings these two elements of his together. They measure 4-1/4" tall (10.8cm) and have polished pontils. I am guessing they date to about 1920.
nice ...
The work is unmistakable! Beautiful Michelle!
Thank you, justlooken12!
Thanks so much Sammyz, I am glad to hear that! :)
Beautiful pieces. Congratulations. You really don't see this decor very often. I saw it in a different form a few years ago only in the collection of Mr. Gabor - a glassmaker from Sušice.
A rare and very interesting pair. My congratulations.
Thanks so much Ales; that is great to know. I have only seen one other example of this decor myself, and that was an example on Pinterest that I believe was in Europe.
Thank you Loetzforever I really appreciate it!
