Heavy egg pendant in (gold?) brass covered gold? with high moldings and points, enamel, silver overlay between the channels, rubies and sapphires (faux or real?) the gems are inserted upside down (points up). The bale shows the age as some of the design (3 hearts with crosses) is worn off, inside is brushed gold, latch inside is worn so it opens too easy and there is a piercing through for the bottom stone ruby.

I am paying for an online appraisal but I really need to have it tested. After looking at thousands of new and antique Russian eggs or Russian style from faberge onwards through the Russian treasures to the most common I cant find one egg made like this.

I hope someone has seen this mystery egg, besides the 3 upside down hearts with crosses on the bale there is no makers mark or materials mark. if it is gold and gems it will be valuable because it is a chunky weighty piece for its size.

Have the metal tested. Russian silver or gold is usually hallmarked. The pendant is very decorative but the designs don't look Russian to me.

Save yourself some money and get it tested BEFORE paying for an online appraisal.

Thank you, I dont think Russian either they used cabachon jewels at this time period and these are inverted (upside down planted jewels of which I never have seen) If there is a makers mark it is that on the bale 3 hearts that get larger and look like stylized crosses in them

the hearts is just a pattern on the bale, not a mark

Thank you davyd286 so it appears- although sometimes a pattern is a company trademark or style and can tell a multitude of things about a piece.

My sister used to be a jewelry dealer and had a whole line of egg pendants like this, but in sterling. I am guessing it is a nice modern reproduction. Probably gold or vermeil. Stones could be glass or ruby/emerald but not super high quality.
These are my speculations from a photo...
