Though not dated, I'd guess that this PAA Route Map is from the 1940s. I assume this from the style of airplanes pictured, and that it has Israel on its map.

This brochure just gave the routes, no schedules were included. It was printed by the C.S. Hammond & Company of New York.

Thank you. AR8Jason for your insights on this publication.

Looking at the map, I noticed that PAA did not stop in Israel at that time, with the closest ports being Beirut and Damascus. I will post detail of this area soon.

Thank you for your comments, as such information helps to fill out the story.

Yes, that is a true assessment of Beirut in particular, and Lebanon in general. My neighbors and friends were from there. They were very pleasant people, of Arabic descent, who could speak French, English and Arabic with equal fluency. And they raised fine families in the USA. The parents and kids were of average incomes , and worked very hard for themselves. They were also very kind and charitable.

Up until 1975, I felt that Lebanon was the beacon of hope for leading the Middle East into stability. But, as you've stated, the civil war of Lebanon dashed all hopes for this. It is sad that the situation has become what it is.....
