Vintage glass figural perfume bottle - 'Boy in Tophat'. Frosted and enameled glass with Bakelite tophat. Never opened. Interesting seal. Don't know exact age. (No, he is not of African-American heritage. His hair is visible on bottle reverse, and it's straight.) Mustangtony has found one just like this on the internet. The bottle in the link below has a hang tag for 'Devon Violet' scent, and the bottom of the bottle indicates that it was made in Great Britain. Thanks to inky and mustangtony for their great generosity in helping ID this bottle and for their good cheer!!!

miKKo - the one on worthpoint is exactly like yours with the same clothing and even with his one hand in his pocket. I wonder if when the bottle has perfume in it, (violet perfume - purple?) would make the face look darker? The one on worthpoint has the actual label tag which is where I got the "devon violets" name from. I couldn't find any other examples.

Possible that one firm produced the bottles, which were used by several fragrance firms? I say this because I've see several ID's offered for this bottle over the years. A style! There are many 'like' him, but so far not one exactly like him. Yours looks just like him. : D Take care, sir. OK, the mind is fresh again, and so I return to the problem. Thanks much to good inky and mustangtony for their most generous and merry help!!! OK, this is not the Charlie McCarthy bottle. : ( Great try, though!! That one has a black boater hat, and the man wears a monocle. Mustang's 'Devon' bottle appears to be the same bottle as mine, although mine does not say that it's made in Great Britain, as the 'Devon' bottle does on the bottom. Mustang, it appears from the residue on the back of the 'Devon' bottle that the perfume was not dark and not purple. I'm not convinced that this bottle is supposed to represent a black man or boy, though there were quite a few that did. So, although I've seen this bottle described as an "Al Jolson" type bottle -- and the seller of the 'Devon' bottle makes reference to AJ -- I can't find that it is a black man. The hair on the back of the head is straight. A good bit of a mystery remains, but, ah, I will judge that once again!!! you have solved a mystery!!! Thank you, mustangtony!!! : D
