I never knew what these things were. They say "MADE IN ITALY" ON THE BACK. They are a lot larger than they look, takes two hands to move one, maybe 10-15 pounds each. Not even sure what they figures are made of, painted something. The seats are iron I think. I thought bookends at first, but the shape is kinda off... I can tell that they are quite old though. Anyone have any opinions?

The male figure is Dante Alighieri and I suppose the female figure is that of the women that bewitched him: Beatrice Portinari.

I think you have something special here.
      Any Italophyle would love them.
      Her's one!

They've been in the family for years, sittin' on the mantle being grumpy together.
Still waiting to run across a maker sometime, but they will stay in the family. They're too cool and I am also an Italyophile
