This adorable little Kewpie...Rose O'Neill Bisque Kewpie with a Mandolin on a log (with a hole in the log as a planter) with a spotted Kewpie Doodle Dog. Marked on the bottom with a black © and No. 4932 and number 53, was given to me by my mom. She found it at a garage sale in Napa, California in the early 1980's.
Before Mom found it, the figurine had been repaired at one time and still needs some further repair work. First repair was done when Kewpie broke just below the waist and was glued back on. Also, there is a small chip underneath the mandolin, which you cannot see in the photo. The last chip is on one of Doodle Dog's wings. As you can see from the photo, it is still in adorable condition for it age, which I believe he was born sometime between 1900- 1940's, but not sure.
If you are familiar with Kewpie and Rose O'Neill's work, you know this is a very, rare opportunity to see this particular one. I have only found one of them online, which was for sale, and sold. I just wanted to share my sweet little treasure! Thanks for looking.
