I have been told this is Brand new. I doubt that) I have been told its 1950, etc. I believe its wool. How was it colored? I dont know. Help?

Well, maybe not brand new. Many rugs like this imitating Navajo patterns were made in the 1970's-and still by Zapotec weavers in Oaxaca, Mexico. I have one like this. Very pretty.
