    another ring I bought at the same auction, it is in nice condition, any ideas on it's age, or maker? I believe it could be civil war era

      The cross rifle insignia became the Infantry Branch insignia after the CW (1874, I believe), but your ring is much later.

      These rings became popular during the WW1 and continued in popularity during WW2.

      Yours looks to be a WW1 example.
