i picked up these old eyeglasses yesterday. the glass is amber-tinted and there are these little folding screens on both sides of the lenses. what were these used for and when were they made? thanks for your help!

Safety glasses. They all pretty much come in plastic now. These carry a good price, excellent condition. :)
