The automatic farm gate patented by Joseph E. Stong, of Newton Brook, Ontario, Canada. Patent no. 141,900 dated August 19, 1873. The last photo is a model gate that sold at auction in 2005. Evidently two configurations of the gate were available. I restored the gate to include both options by simply replacing the upper beam. My collection now includes a sample of each of the three Stong gate patents.

    Added go-with advertising card 1/31/2015. (3rd photo)
