I found this trunk up in northern Vermont quite a few years ago and it's always been a favorite. It's leather covered and has iron edge banding and lots of the brass "buttons". The rolled leather handle is original and in good condition. The interior is cloth lined in an early floral print, also original. The lock is an early hand forged style with the large barrel key, which was used in the 1850's to 1860's. I don't know if this was a hat trunk or just a small "hand trunk" for carrying items for a short trip. Either way I think it's very interesting. It's 14" wide and 12" tall. I've treated the leather with a good mink oil polish, but it does show it's age some. Thanks!
